Austin Chamber honors large businesses for employee health & wellness

On August 21st, the Austin Chamber hosted the 19th annual Greater Austin Business Awards. With more than 125 nominees across 12 categories, we wanted to share some of the great things each of our honorees are doing. Today, we are focusing on the large business (351+ employees) honorees for their employee health and wellness programs.

Accenture

Accenture strives to become the "most truly human" company in the digital age. We infuse the principles of "Truly Human", our holistic approach that enables an environment where employees can be their best selves (body, mind, heart and soul), into everything Accenture does. The company leads truly human workshops using a reality self-assessment, journaling, and science to help teams make small changes to transform how they live, learn and lead. The "Accenture Mindfulness Program" uses neuroscience insights, meditation techniques, and exercises to help participants become more mentally focused, improve performance, and reduce emotional exhaustion. Accenture infuses science and activities like yoga and meditation into employee meetings, events and outings, and its Austin Employee Resource Groups and Action Teams organize year-round wellness initiatives like group yoga, 5K walks, and cycling classes, making well-being fun and easy.

AMD

AMD is committed to offering its employees and their families comprehensive, health and well-being programs to achieve their health goals. As part of this commitment, AMD offers its "Wellness@Work" program that focuses on engagement and prevention for total well-being. Employees enjoy access to extensive resources and services to help them achieve their goals. The program focuses on maintaining healthy weight, healthy mental outlook, good eating habits, exercising more, reducing stress and avoiding tobacco to improve quality of life and reduce healthcare costs. AMD provides an onsite Cafe and Coffee Shop featuring healthy meals and drinks that include nutrition and caloric information, cultural cuisine and grab and go options at an affordable price. To encourage movement throughout the day, there are two miles of outdoor hiking paths around the campus and a free onsite fitness center offering classes from strength training to yoga and meditation, and Massage services. Above all, AMD believes wellness begins with a culture of inclusion where everyone feels welcome and has a voice. That is why they invest heavily in our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), which give AMDers support for professional and personal growth, a place to belong and opportunities for community engagement.

NXP Semiconductor

Health, Safety and Wellness of its employees is embedded in NXP's Corporate Sustainability Policy. NXP promotes a balanced lifestyle with schedule flexibility for non-manufacturing jobs. To ensure everyone has the right skills and disciplines to minimize the risks of illness and injury, NXP provides employee training each year. A range of educational programs provide on the job training as well as specialized training in health and safety matters, quality controls, ergonomics and chemical safety. The company also offers free membership to its activity center, provides group exercise classes led by experienced professional trainers such as cardio, interval strength training, cycling, meditation and specialty classes are offered are Pilates, TRX, HIIT, CORE, and Zumba. NXP also offers onsite seminars ranging from nutrition, weight management, reducing stress, physical activity. Each activity center offers therapies such as physical therapy, massage or reflexology.
