Posted on 09/14/2017 by Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce

Name:
Youssef Chaker

Years as Chamber Ambassador:
A year-and-a-half

Company:
Bear and Giraffe

Resounding Words:
“It was a good experience, was fun, and it was heartfelt.”

Why are you an ambassador?
I was new in Austin when I joined and I wanted to meet new people. I thought this would be a great combination of both professional and social networking.

Describe your most memorable experience while serving as an ambassador?
We held a ribbon cutting for Big Brothers and Big Sisters. There were a lot of people, a lot of kids, and there was a drum band that was playing. It was really nice to see the alumni and the next generation of new mentors. It was a good experience, was fun, and it was heartfelt.

How would you convince others to become an ambassador?
I would describe my experience to them and explain how being around this group of people has opened up doors to other companies I would otherwise not have access to.

If you were the only human left on Earth, what would you do?
Eat; which is what I do now. (chuckles)

Who inspires you to be better?
That’s interesting. It was a high school girlfriend that inspired me to be better.

What do you spend the most time thinking about?
My kids, my future kids, my nonexistent kids (chuckles). Every minute of my day I think about what am I working towards and how am I setting them up for success to be in a good position. There is little I can do to change my history or childhood but how can I set them up for success.

The Ambassador Committee meets monthly. If you are interested in joining, contact Melanee Ferrier at 512-322-5684.
