Mobility of goods and people in, out and within Central Texas was a key issue identified in the initial Market Street Report, the basis for Opportunity Austin (OA) in 2003. The mid-course review of OA1.0 reiterated the importance of taking significant, positive steps towards addressing congestion. In response, the Chamber created Take on Traffic, a coalition of business organizations and concerned citizens working to promote a comprehensive regional transportation plan. Focusing on the need to include five major roadway projects in the CAMPO 2030 Long Range Transportation Plan and the Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) as toll roads, Take on Traffic used its coalition to execute a wide variety of advocacy strategies. A $500,000 advocacy campaign, funded by OA and other donations resulted in thousands of emails of support and hundreds of people testifying at and attending public meetings. A successful CAMPO vote included the projects in the plan and TIP in October of 2007.
Since then the Chamber and Take on Traffic have continued to advocate for:

• Rail relocation fund at the state level (created, not funded)
• Keeping SH 45 SW in the CAMPO Plan/TIP (success, but under attack again)
• System financing for Regional Mobility toll projects (success)
• More funding for roadway improvements in the City of Austin 2010 bond election (success)
• A local funding option at the state level (unsuccessful)
• Intersection improvements (partially successful)
• A five-county regional transit vision that is adopted by CAMPO and incorporated in the 2040 Plan (in progress)
• More funding for transportation and projects on our region's most congested corridors – IH 35, N. Lamar, Mopac, SL 360, US 290 (SL 1-1826), S. Lamar  (partially successful; in progress)

• Ben White/IH 35 SB Flyover (completed; $26.5M)
• 290 W./Mopac Interchange (under construction)
• Mopac Improvement Project Phase I - Express Lanes (waiting for federal approval for construction)
• Bergstrom Expressway (environmental study underway)
