Call for Platelet Donors

The Blood Center of Central Texas has issued a call for platelet donors because the supply of platelets has fallen to an unsafe level. Anyone who is able to visit the Lamar Donor Center, 4300 N Lamar, is urged to make a platelet donation appointment as soon as possible.

Platelets have a shelf life of 5 days! Once they are tested and ready for distribution, those days are cut to between 2 and 3 days before they expire. Therefore, the need to replenish the supply is ongoing.

Platelet donation may be done every 10 days or 24 times per year. The entire process from the time a donor walks into the doors until they leave is approximately one and one half hours. By sharing your good health and generous spirit, you help make miracles happen and lifesaving possible.
