Austin area job opportunities continue to be pervasive. Based on the latest Chamber Jobs Report, there were nearly 9,000 open IT jobs in September 2015 which is up 10% year over year. The health care field reported almost 5,000 openings, up 27% year over year.

In health care, the top three occupations with job openings are Registered Nurses, LVNs and critical care nurses. Rapid population growth and the impending opening of a new medical school may further accelerate these job openings.

While local completions of IT certifications continue to increase, it is still not aggressive enough. College students should know that learning a computer language or conversancy in network upkeep and architecture will provide them with great opportunities in the local market. So will pursuit of health care credentials.

The Metro Austin job market currently has 46,400 job openings and approximately 36,500 unemployed.
