February 19, 2010 - The Austin Chamber, through Opportunity Austin, is pleased to announce that Pioneer Surgical Technology, a leader in innovative medical devices, recently announced plans to open a new facility in Austin, Texas. The new facility provides Pioneer greater recruiting access to industry professionals who will help further the growth and development of Pioneer’s Spine Division. In addition, the move provides greater strategic access to key spine markets and enables the company to offer stronger logistic support to its customers and growing spine sales force.

“We are excited about Pioneer’s decision to invest in Austin by locating its next facility in Central Texas,” said Tim Crowley, Chair, Opportunity Austin and President - Community Banking Group, Frost National Bank. “The addition of Pioneer’s new medical device facility is a great fit for Opportunity Austin’s strategy to develop a high tech environment for existing local business as well as those entering the Austin market.”

Rick Whiteley with Oxford Commercial, an active Opportunity Austin investor, represented Pioneer in their facility search and set up. Pioneer’s Austin facility will house the Marketing/Sales commercial organization, as well as portions of its Product Development group and associated support functions. This will create approximately 30 Central Texas jobs in 2010, with opportunities to expand in the coming years.

The 11,000 square-foot facility, with an option to grow, is located in Northwest Austin and is set to open second quarter 2010.
