Bastrop

The City of Bastrop is the county seat and commercial center of Bastrop County. Bastrop is located 30 miles southeast of Austin at the intersection of State Highways 21, 71 and 95, only 22 miles from the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

A historic community in the heart of a forest
Bastrop is a popular residential community, in part because of its vintage charm and the lush natural surroundings, characterized by deep green pine forests, and one of the region’s most popular recreational lakes. Bastrop boasts three beautiful golf courses, a state park and quiet neighborhoods nestled in the woods.

Attractive for industry and commerce
The area’s growing biotech industry includes M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Center, the University of Texas Veterinary Science Park, BioCrest/Stratagene, The Coghlan Group and Cenetron Diagnostics. Minerals produced in the county include clay, oil, gas and lignite. Livestock, corn, sorghum, pecans and peanuts are principal sources of agricultural income.
